Limestone Valley RC&D

The Clean Water Act 319(h) funds, administered through Georgia EPD, have been an excellent way for Limestone Valley RC&D Council to engage with communities across the councils 11 county service area. The Council has in the two years completed agricultural, septic and urban projects through multiple 319(h) grants in numerous counties. Partnerships forged through the grant making process have enabled additional momentum to build and community engagement to continue beyond the scope of funding. Some watersheds served in the last two years include: Oostanaula River, South Chickamauga Creek, Lookout Creek, Chattanooga Creek, Holly Creek, Salacoa and Coahulla Creek. These Creeks represent work in 9 distinct Georgia Counties.

The Flint River: A Georgia Treasure is the result of a partnership between the Golden Triangle RC&D, Georgia Water Planning & Policy Center at Albany State, and the Flint Riverkeeper. Beginning in the Fall of 2019, our team captured video from the entire length of the river, from Hartsfield-Jackson Airport all the way to Lake Seminole. This video is just the first in a series that will tell the story of Georgia’s amazing Flint River. Footage from the project will be used for a tourism film that can be used to promote this amazing natural resource. Other footage will be used for tourism, educational purposes, and community awareness.

Rolling Hills RC&D

Rolling Hills RC&D has started work on the NRCS Improved Grazing Management grant. This grant consists of a mobile solar watering system built in conjunction with the Bartow County College and Career Academy and a rotational grazing mobile application. With this grant, Rolling Hills aims to provide landowners with a solar powered watering system for cattle that can be deployed in remote areas of a farm. The system also includes solar powered electric fencing materials to protect surface water from cattle activities. The goal of this grant is to help and encourage landowners to open grazing areas where power or water may have been too costly to run as well as protect our natural resources at the same time. The grant also offered four cattle producers the opportunity to test out paid subscriptions with two different rotational grazing applications on computer and cell phones. The purpose of this part of the grant is to provide producers record keeping and data collection to help manage grazing operations on the farm.
